Bipartisan resolution introduced by House representatives recognizing National Physician Suicide Awareness Day

A bipartisan resolution recognizing Sept. 17 as National Physician Suicide Awareness Day was introduced yesterday by Reps. Haley Stevens, D-Mich., and Brian Fitzpatrick, R-Pa. Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton, D-D.C., and Reps. Bonnie Watson Coleman, D-N.J., and Nanette Barragán, D-Calif., are co-sponsors of the resolution.

“The American Hospital Association thanks Representative Haley Stevens for introducing this resolution designating September 17 as National Physician Suicide Awareness Day,” said Lisa Kidder Hrobsky, AHA senior vice president for advocacy and political affairs. “Physician suicide is a tragic issue that demands greater awareness, research, and action. By elevating this issue nationally, we can continue to reduce the stigma surrounding physician mental health. We are grateful for Representative Stevens’ leadership and commitment to supporting the well-being of the physicians and caregivers who care for patients every day.”
